WAR DOWN BELOW
Catch the cage down boys before the sun starts to shine
Three rings of the bell will bring you to the bottom of the mine.
Walk down the drift past the roar of the fans
For another day drilling and getting ready to blast.
We are soldiers in the war down below
And we fight every day for nickel, copper and gold.
When the jackleg was king boys, you had to be strong.
It took a mighty big man to move a mountain of rock.
But the longholes and the scoop trams and the big jumbo drills
Make a mighty man small and take all the earth can give.
We are soldiers in the war down below,
And the dust and the diesel is our greatest foe.
We are soldiers in the war down below
And we fight every day for nickel, copper and gold.
So scale the back down boys, keep your rock bolts in well.
Don’t get killed for the bonus and stay out of bad ground.
Haul the ore to the grizzly, to the draw points as well
And let the skip tender take all these jewels from hell.
We are soldiers in the war down below,
And the dust and the diesel is our greatest foe.
We are soldiers in the war down below
And we fight every day for nickel, copper and gold.

Heartbreak Town
There’s only one reason this town was built one reason it remains
5000 feet down the number three shaft
where the highgrade starts to pay.
When the price of ore is rising there’s big dreams going down
But when it falls and falls again
It’s a heart break town.
Saturday night at the legion
We’ll be drinking and singing songs
Let the cold winds blow tonight
Because the fire is burning bright.
We like the life we got here
Carved it from this ground
With a lot of heart and a lot of dreams in a heart break town.
There ain’t a lot of choice in a company town
its always been that way
so you send your kids to college
and they never come home again
when a man dies young from a rattling lung
it ain’t a pretty sight to see
you trade years off your life to feed your kids and your wife
in a heartbreak town.
We came to this land of promise
To work these fields of gold
and our labour built an empire far from what we’ve ever known.
We get paid in the bonus dollar
and on payday it all comes down
with a lot of heart and a lot of soul in a heartbreak town.

GRIEVOUS ANGELS Cobalt, Ontario
“Authentic like Johnny Cash and Woody Guthrie”
“This is a brilliant folk album, and
one for our times."
-The Spill Magazine
For the last three decades, the Grievous Angels have been carving out a unique place in the alt-roots landscape. Their songs conjure the tragic beauty of Canada’s northern blue collar frontier.
Their 8th album is a kick ass journey through dark and unsettled times.
